In 1906, a small exhibition was held at Hinton St Mary and its success led to the formation of the Association in 1907. Exhibitions have been held annually, apart from some war years, which explains why this summer's Exhibition (July 27 -31st) is only the 93rd. Originally, many counties had such associations but Dorset's is the survivor and still attracting thousands of visitors.
Plans to celebrate the centenary are being finalised. There will be a Dinner in June and a special Craft Fair in the autumn, while the July Exhibition will contain special events and features. More than 30 classes provide a showcase for arts and crafts workers, from nationally recognised experts to schoolchildren - and everyone in between is welcome! Many demonstrate their skills, sell their work. and help the public join in art activities. Mrs Anthony Pitt-Rivers, DACA President, whose husdand's family has a long connection with the Association, is presenting a Centenary Trophy for Dorset landscape and seascape artists. Our current chairman and his wife are also presenting a new trophy for botanical art. The prizegiving is on the Sunday of the five day Exhibition.
